SIS is one of the pioneers of the high school project "Praxisberater". This cooperation project of the Saxon Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs with the Federal Employment Agency was launched in June 2013 as a support measure for individual promotion for career and study orientation. Each student receives a development plan from the practical advisor according to the results of an analysis of his or her potential, which is coordinated with the teacher, parents and, of course, the student himself or herself. In addition, the practical advisors establish and maintain contacts with companies and offer individual counseling for students and parents in grades 7 and 8.
The Subject Practice-Oriented Instruction (PU) is an additional offering at our schools and part of the mandatory schedule. Classes are held in teaching cabinets equipped with a pool of tools and machines, computer technology and high-quality work materials.
Each 5th and 6th grade student visits a company for a few hours over three days with a special research assignment provided by the school. The result is to be a presentation and a wall newspaper for the company. In addition, the students present their practical experience in class and at the parents' evening.
In these classes, practice-oriented instruction provides the first fundamental insights into practical work procedures, development and production processes, and the economic contexts of various occupational groups.
In these grades, occupational orientation block weeks are combined in the class network at vocational schools and educational institutions that provide training in many occupational fields with activities in the companies. The results and experiences are evaluated and discussed in the class and school network. An analysis of potential, counseling sessions, work with the career choice passport, excursions, visits to the BIZ and education fairs complement this spectrum.
The students are also encouraged to attend the "Week of Open Companies" and "Girls Day/Boys Day" events and to complete internships during the vacations. The idea behind this is that every opportunity to get to know professions and companies promotes the decision-making process on one's own career choice.
A special feature is the Company start-up projectThe school's "Success in Work" program, which is initiated in the 7th grade and then developed further, is a special feature of the program. The students deal with the prospects of success of "their" company on the basis of a market analysis, personnel requirements or develop a business plan.
In the 9th through 12th grades, the program includes 14-day specialized internships geared to the students' aptitudes and interests. A three-week internship is also offered in the vocational high school.
Job application training, assessment centers and company presentations, as well as thematic parents' evenings and SIS education fairs, round out the career and study orientation offerings. And, of course, our students from the 9th grade onwards also visit various universities and colleges and the open days there.
The Reinsdorf and TRIAS Elsterberg high schools have already been awarded the Saxon Seal of Quality for Career Orientation for the high quality of their career orientation. The other schools work according to the same concept, which means that a uniform quality can be expected.
Below you will find the concrete implementation of our vocational orientation concept at the TOS in Elsterberg. The evaluation forms for the internship companies can be downloaded in the Download area download area.
In the practice-oriented lessons (PU) as well as in connection with TC/computer science/WTH, we teach the students a variety of basic skills and abilities, e.g.
In the subject Economy-Technology-Household (WTH), a so-called company foundation project is initiated from grade 7, which is further developed in the following grades. Through the practical/theoretical work on a concrete example, the students internalize both the interrelationships of the individual subjects and the requirements and necessity of learning for their future lives to a particular extent. In the interdisciplinary project, they deal with the following points, among others:
At the beginning of the project, each company receives a fictitious starting capital. Then it is a matter of dealing with business registration, tax office registration, bank, company premises, tools, necessary working materials etc. Offers have to be written, loans taken out and processes calculated, employment contracts prepared and wages calculated. Of course, creating a homepage (in computer science classes) is part of the tasks, and the possibility of insolvency is also discussed. For companies abroad, offers have to be written in English or Spanish, and the students also have to find out about the customs there.
